Take time to relax and rebalance

Aiming to help you feel happier, healthier and energised with specially-tailored reflexology

Welcome to Jo Adcock Reflexology

If you're looking for support with an existing heath condition, or would like to reduce your day-to-day stress levels, or would just like a little time for yourself, my aim is to help you feel healthier, energised and happier with specially-tailored Reflexology treatments. I am based in Winnersh, near Wokingham and Reading.

I qualified as a Reflexologist following my training at the Oxford School of Reflexology in 2007. As a member of the Association of Reflexologists, I abide by their Code of Practice and Ethics and am fully insured, and enjoy keeping up to date with my professional development.

Having practiced Reflexology for over 16 years I've developed an extensive array of knowledge and experience that allows me to adapt my treatments to the varied and personal needs of my clients. With my Reflexology I also worked at a Sue Ryder day hospice in Wokingham for 10 years, giving treatments to patients and their carers.

During your first visit we'll go through your medical history and discuss any areas of concern you may have. This is an important part of the initial treatment, which assesses where there are possible imbalances or problem areas. This first treatment will usually last for approximately an hour and a half, and subsequent treatments will last for about one hour.

I'll start and finish the treatment with a foot massage in order to relax you, very often you will become so relaxed that you fall asleep! This is extremely beneficial to the effectiveness of the treatment as the deeper the relaxation that is achieved the greater the opportunity the body will have to heal itself. Occasionally there may be some discomfort in certain areas, this may be an indication of congestion or an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body which very often eases during the course of the treatment.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.

Complementary Therapy

Reflexology is a complementary therapy treating the body as a whole, helping to balance the body and bring it back to its natural state of health. Applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet helps stimulate the body’s own healing mechanism.

The holistic approach...

Reflexology works on the principle of restoring and maintaining the body's natural equilibrium and encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance or in holistic terms - homeostasis.

Alleviate Stress

Excessive stress can disrupt the balance of the body, which can build up until it eventually expresses itself in the form of illness, discomfort or disorder. Reflexology may help to alleviate the effects of stress by inducing deep relaxation, assisting the body to regain its natural balance and encouraging the normal function of the nervous system. Reflexology may also help to improve circulation and stimulates the body.

Please remember that you do not have to have a 'condition' to have Reflexology, it is very relaxing, and is enjoyable in its own right and most people find it very uplifting.

How can reflexology help?

Helps relieve tension

Improves a sense of wellbeing

Fertility Issues

Reflexology can be very supportive during this emotional time. It may help to balance hormones, boost the efficiency of body systems and of course, help with the considerable stress involved with fertility issues. Both partners can benefit from Reflexology – men also suffer with hormonal imbalances.

Maternity Reflexology

During your pregnancy your body will go through significant changes; these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Reflexology may help to alleviate or prevent discomfort arising from this imbalance and restore the body’s equilibrium.

Safe

Reflexology is safe and effective during pregnancy. It is, however, not recommended if there is a history of premature labour, severe hypertension, placenta previa or recent bleeding. If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.

What will you do when you are treating me?

Who can benefit from Reflexology?

People of all ages, there are no limitations or boundaries from babies to the elderly, I feel reflexology can only be beneficial. However, anyone with ongoing deep vein thrombosis, or any form of blood clot could not be treated until their medication to control the clotting was properly balanced.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Following a treatment you may feel thoroughly relaxed and invigorated. You may experience calm and a feeling of well-being, as stress and tension are relieved and your blood circulation is improved, leaving all the systems of your body functioning fully and in their natural equilibrium.

Is there anything I should do between treatments?

Make sure you're drinking enough water, and if you can make a note of any post treatment symptoms, and tell me about them at our next session.

Is Reflexology ticklish?

No. The way in which a professional Reflexologist holds and works the feet is with a firm pressure which is not ticklish.

What should I wear?

As I only remove your shoes and socks during the treatment, you don't need to bring any change of clothes.

How do I know you are qualified?

I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist and a Member of the Association of Reflexologists (AOR). I have been trained to professional standards and am governed by strict Code of Practice and Ethics. Visit the AOR for useful information and listings of qualified Reflexologists. I continue to further my Reflexology training and knowledge through CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
